This cold weather has me thinking back to our long, lazy summer days. I sometimes zoom back on my phone camera roll to look at past summer pictures just to see color and sunshine. While doing that this morning, I realized I never did a post on our youngest daughter’s 9th birthday party which was back in August. She just wanted a few friends over to have their hair/makeup done and to learn a dance to her favorite song. The more I do birthday parties, the more I learn that you really have to listen to the birthday girl and give them what their vision is. I had all these grandiose plans of a Lily Pulitzer party, but her only request was no theme, just bright happy colors and Claire’s makeup! So that’s what she got!
So excited to pull together a quick St. Patrick’s Day play date and celebrate with our dear friends. Veronica Huang was so gracious, as always, to shoot the tiny sweets table and all the kiddos.
I decided to give the display a slight modern twist to the typical St. Patrick’s Day “Green” and went more for the “Pot of Gold” at the end of the rainbow. After this long winter I was just itching to see lots of color!
Since my oldest has food allergies I always try and make the dessert table “allergy friendly” so everyone can enjoy it. She often sees beautiful dessert tables at parties and then can’t eat anything on them. So I stuck with basic simply salted popcorn, lemon sorbet and mini vanilla Oreos (all nut free, dairy free and egg free).
Since we are coming up on the holiday of LOVE… I wanted to share a vow renewal I helped my dear friend, Veronica and her sweet husband Tom with back in November. It was their 10 year anniversary the Saturday after thanksgiving and they decided to celebrate their love by renewing their vows in their Christian church that they have become a part of since moving here. Many of their family members traveled from across the country to attend. Veronica wanted to keep things simple and rustic. She was hoping we could include a sweets table that had the feel of our local farm’s General Store where you could select penny candy and AMAZING cider donuts. It turned out beautiful and was a huge hit with the children as well as the adults! (*Note, the mini “thankful” banner was a free printable from Bloom Designs Online).
The centerpieces were simple and cost effective.
It has been on my list for a long time now, to develop an inspiration board containing all the visual images that will serve as a reminder of my dreams and goals. Now I realize that Pinterest serves the same purpose but I wanted a physical print out that I can hang up and look at everyday. My girls loved it so much they made their own little boards. It was so fun seeing what images they selected.
It goes back to the motto…if you SEE it and BELIEVE it you will ACHIEVE it.
I just love the start of a New Year and the spark it gives you to clean out, start fresh and reassess. I’m not one for resolutions, but this year I’m determined to write more posts and share more images of the creative work I love to do…whether that be parties, crafting, photo shoot styling or home decorating. I promise it will all be pretty to look at and hopefully inspiring to you as well… Stay tuned 2015…
