Every year I tend to scale back my Halloween decor a bit. I don’t know if it’s because my girls are older now, or if just don’t want to deal with packing everything away after a few weeks, but I do like to have some fun and make it festive. This year I used a lot of things I already own and only purchased a few new items. I found some printable vintage science art for bats and insects that I printed out and placed in some old thrifted frames I had. You can find some similar vintage Halloween art and scenes here and here. I also added in a few insects from the dollar store to my glass box where I keep my collected shells year round.
I’ve used this black chain link many years in a row. It just gives a creepy effect. You can drape it over decor on your shelves or books on a coffee table. I added a vintage looking dessert plate that I picked up at Home Goods on our fireplace mantel.
I found a cool large black linen covered book at our local library’s used book sale for $1.00 and thought it would be perfect to place on our entryway table with an orange candlestick.
I’ve also had this black pillow for a few years now and this orange/pink pillow was my daughter’s that she didn’t want anymore and I like how together they pull in the classic Halloween colors.

I work on a flower farm and last year my coworker made this flower garland using orange and yellow dried marigolds. It has a very Dia de Los Muertos vibe. I did find one you can purchase here.
The year prior to that I cut some branches from my yard and placed them in a vase with a few crows and cobwebs.
One year I played around with more of a mad scientist theme. I had an old bird cage with crows and used some gardening books that I opened and displayed on a stand.
Switching gears, I wanted to show what we’ve done on the outside for our front steps. I found these light up ghosts at TJ Maxx and love how simple but fun they are. I cut some of our hydrangeas and added them to our window boxes and also made a witches broom using a tree branch and some sticks from our yard. Every one of these pumpkins are faux since the chipmunks usually get to our real ones too soon, these last!
