Since our girls were small we had a family tradition of having our neighbors (and their two daughters) over for New Years and doing an hourly countdown to midnight! I would gather small gifts, activities and such after Christmas and wrap them in a bag with each hour written on them starting at 7:00pm. The girls would be so excited to open one on the hour and it would keep them busy as they waited for the ball to drop on New Years. I would often alternate each hour with a busy exciting game and then a slow down activity.

Some fun items I’ve included are:
New Year’s Eve Selfie Scavenger Hunt
Old Plates – I did this for the midnight one since it was a family tradition to break plates outside our front door on midnight for good luck in the New Year.
You don’t have to spend a ton of money on these items. I have found discounted games and nail polish kits after Christmas at steep discounts. I also have included ideas for them to do like make your own scrap book collage vision boards for the New Year. Or I have them each right down their New Year’s resolution and then guess whose resolution matches with each person. You can also have them make and decorate their own party hats to wear at midnight.
Another idea is to have each hour be a minute to win it game. These are always a hit and cost little to nothing!
