Guest Bedroom Wallpaper Refresh

This winter/early spring we decided to give our guest bedroom a refresh with some new wallpaper, rug, desk, chair and ottomans. Part of the reason for the update was I wanted an office space area for myself and I just wanted the room to better reflect my style. Back in 2018, we renovated the room to add moulding details on the ceiling and constructed the builtin matching shiplap twin beds.

This is a complete before shot with the new ceiling and beds- the cabinet served as a shared nightstand but I always wanted a desk in that space so it would be more useable when we didn’t have guests.

I was searching for a very narrow table that could double as a desk and found one at Home Goods. The chair is a small dining chair from World Market linked here on rollers and is the perfect size for the space.

The wallpaper we used is from Artza & Co. called Cultura in color Misty Meadow. It was our first time working with a peel and stick wallpaper and it was fairly easy to do but did have times when it was frustrating to line up the pattern. Hence, we really took our time in only doing one or two panels a night.

The company gave us a tool with the paper to easily slide over the walls to adhere it. The trick was to have two inches or so over the top crown and spread out the paper working from the middle out to the sides.

Once the paper was attached to the wall and all the air bubbles were smoothed out we used a razor blade and the edge of their smoothing tool to cut off the extra paper.

Same thing would be for the bottom. Once the wallpaper was firmly attached we allowed an over hang on the bottom and cut the extra paper with the razor right up against the baseboard.

We made our way around the room making sure to line up the pattern as we went along. The paper is meant to overlap about an inch.

We have to admit there were definitely areas when we couldn’t get it aligned perfectly so we did our best – it’s really only noticeable to us.

We were really happy with how it turned out! It completely transformed the space! As for the overhead lighting, I really had my eye on this beautiful one – I loved the scalloped details. It feels traditional but playful and feminine.
