Never in a million years did I ever think I would be an owner of a lake house. For one, I’m a jersey shore girl at heart, and second I am petrified to swim in lakes (result of seeing Friday the 13th at too young of an age). Then came this listing 20 minutes from our current home. This house was 800 sq feet, tucked in between two houses (one twice its size) and was sagging in the center. It was a definite fixer upper, but my husband is a passionate and creative self-taught fixer-upper and was ready for a new challenge. As soon as we walked in and saw the view we were sold. I think our real estate agent thought we were crazy, as she showed us other listings that were definitely bigger, better and needed less work.
What we loved about this place was its small size, hidden potential and direct proximity to the water.”
We closed September 2019, and started demo that November. Just a little background… houses on lakes in upstate NY are often called “camps”. I never understood what that meant really but learned quickly that it meant these houses didn’t get a lot of cosmetic work and were basically a rustic shelter used during the summer months. We were eager to take on making this little camp beautiful and functional….all while being cost effective. We got creative in utilizing every square inch, and we can’t wait to share these spaces with you!
