True story…we have been wanting to convert our small half bath on the second floor of our cape cod to a full bath since we moved in to our home 20 years ago. We only have one full bath and it’s on the first floor, which has always made it uncomfortable to have to shower and then run upstairs to get ready, especially when we have guests. The project has always been put on the back burner as we had other renovations that took precedence and then purchased our summer home that needed to be completely gutted, so things got busy.
So when Rich and I were chatting last weekend over coffee I asked him what makes him feel most creative and his response was doing projects. So we decided maybe it was time to do the bathroom upstairs and try and do it on a tight budget since we have one daughter in college and another one leaving soon too. We left that day to visit my family in NJ and while there we went for a walk and noticed a neighbor putting something out on the curb. Rich ran over to take a look and it was dozens of Carrara Bianco Honed Marble! For FREE! The man said his father was in the business and they just didn’t need the tiles anymore as they completed their bathroom and placed an ad on facebook marketplace but that no one came for it.

My niece captured these photos of us loading the truck with all the tile!

So needless to say, we were so excited and took it as a huge sign that it was time to get this renovation started!
I’ve been searching Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration and have been feeling like it would be nice to have wallpaper in this bathroom. I love how cozy, sophisticated and timeless these images all look. I also love the light wood vanities and brass finishes which I think warm the white marble.

Our shower will be similar to this shape as our ceiling slopes like this and we will have a window right next to the shower. We plan on doing glass walls on two sides, since it’s a small space we hope that having more glass will make it feel light and airy.

Love this storage solution built in between the studs of the wall! With two teenage girls we have loads and loads of beauty products and this is such a great use of space! Definitely having Rich build this. We are constrained by space so our vanity cannot be large, and this is a great way to store all their bathroom needs!
Stay tuned I’m going to be working on the moodboard and selections we decide on as we move forward with this reno!
Looks like a great project. Can’t wait to see it finished. Beautiful ideas.
Thank you! can’t wait to post the finished pictures!
Wow very cool story! Inspiring as well since we have a daughter in college and feeling the crunch! But I am particularly loving your story as an environmentalist I am constantly striving to keep things out of the landfill and by finding this marble you are also not purchasing new a new item with all the packaging and shipping that comes with it!! I enjoyed reading your story. Very motivating 😊
Aw thank you! Yes so happy it didn’t go to waste and we could use it!
